Use of information, practices or outcomes from previous processes. This can include expertise from previous facilitation teams, agreements that have been reached, or building upon text produced during previous meetings.

Outreach by organizers

Outreach by the leaders of a host facilitation team and the supporting international secretariat, for example to build momentum. This may include travelling to consult with negotiation parties, advocating for the negotiations’ purpose, and encouraging parties to share their views.

Building trust and relationships

Positive working relationships are a great asset that facilitate the negotiation process. Trust reflects a greater willingness to reveal information and/or live up to agreements. Trust can be built ahead of the decisive meetings by demonstrating impartiality, transparency and inclusiveness and positive relationships must be built over time through frequent interaction.
