Capacity Building

Successful summits happen when those invested in the process—the secretariats, host countries, delegations, and observers—have a thorough understanding of multilateral negotiation dynamics. CEMUNE provides tailor-made training programmes and lectures on multilateral negotiations. We work with governments, international organisations and other stakeholders. We also work alongside our training cooperation partner Egger Philips.

NEGOTIATION SKILLS TRAINING

NEGOTIATION SKILLS TRAINING

Our training programmes build on the Harvard Concept. Formulated by Harvard Professors, Roger Fisher and William Ury, the Harvard Concept increases success in negotiations by:

  • improving relationships among parties
  • improving understanding of the situation and interests
  • creating maximum value in deal-making
  • generating the best possible options
  • increasing the acceptance of the agreement
  • carefully leveraging negotiation power

MULTILATERAL PROCESS TRAINING

Two half-day workshops aiming to support the initial preparations of our partners in governments and international organisations.

We do so in two key stages. First, we offer an introduction into the stakeholders’ negotiations to deepen the understanding of the issues under negotiation, the various institutional bodies in which the negotiations unfold, and the key processes and principles at play in multilateral negotiation settings. Second, we offer insights into research-based, key preparation steps for summit hosts to support the different governments and international organisations in their current stage of the process and overcoming potential challenges.
